DUE TO THE POPULARITY OF THE COVERED WAGON RIDES IN THE FALL, WE HAVE TO KNOW VERY EARLY IF THIS TRIP IS GOING OR NOT.  PLEASE CALL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO PLACE YOUR RESERVATION.  THANK YOU.

COVERED WAGON RIDE, BOAT CRUISE, KINZUA GORGE

DAY ONE:  A Beautiful Fall Trip! With time to get-acquainted, we cross over into the picturesque state of Pennsylvania and embark on a scenic Autumn adventure into the PA Grand Canyon. The Canyon is surrounded by approximately 165,000 acres of the Tioga State Forest and is approx. 47 miles long. The depth of the canyon varies from 800 to 1,450 ft. The area known as Pine Creek Gorge received national acclaim when the National Park Service designated a section as a National Natural Landmark. There is no more beautiful time to visit here than in the Fall!

But first, as we arrive in the area, we pick up our local Guide who leads the way for a driving tour of Williamsport’s historic Millionaire’s Row – hear the legend & lore of these grand dames. The Rowley House is a masterpiece of Victorian architecture with its stained-glass windows, opulent woodwork and imported tiles – enjoy a tour here for a true ‘step back in time’.

On we go to the charming Hiawatha Riverboat for a relaxing, Susquehanna River Cruise. Enjoy “leaf peeping” as we glide along on a real Paddle wheeler!

This evening, a lovely dinner awaits us at the Penn Wells Restaurant. Our home for 2 nights is the historic Penn Wells Lodge in Wellsboro for a nostalgia-filled experience! (D)

DAY TWO: Today we depart for a real Covered Wagon Ride! Enjoy gorgeous views of the endless mountains as you take a picturesque horse-drawn covered wagon ride into the PA Grand Canyon’s Upper Gorge along Pine Creek – What Fun! The wagons are similar to those used in the 1800’s, and the tour guides are fluent in the history of the Canyon going back to the 19th century. *(Covered wagon rides are held rain or shine.) This is such a neat, unique opportunity… and you will love it!

A special treat will be the Cowboy Lunch we’ll sit down to after our wagon ride is finished. Enjoy BBQ Pork & Chicken, cowboy beans, butter potatoes, and strawberry shortcake!

We make our way to the PA Grand Canyon Overlook in Leonard Harris State Park, a true “natural wonder” and one of PA’s Top Vacation Destinations! The canyon is actually a 47-mile gorge carved into the Allegheny Plateau by Pine Creek and sits in about 160,000 acres of the Tioga State Forest – Wow! The overlook provides a spectacular view in every direction – Have your camera ready! And ladies, wait ‘til you see the gift shop!  Enjoy another delicious dinner tonight at Penn Wells Restaurant before turning in from a beautiful day amidst God’s lavish creations! (B, L, D)

DAY THREE:  Off we go on Historic Rt. 6, also called the Grand Army of the Republic Highway in honor of the American Civil War veterans, to the very special Eldred WWII Museum chronicling the history of WWII from the perspective of a munitions company. This museum’s wonderful exhibits include battlefield maps, vintage posters and dioramas complete with sound effects, music narrative and lighting effects – exceptionally well done by lovingly dedicated volunteers!

Lunch is included at the Barrel House Restaurant in Lantz Corners, PA, and then we travel to Mt. Jewett to “ooh and aah” at the massive Kinzua Gorge. This panoramic area, home to the Kinzua Viaduct, was built in 1882 as a railroad bridge to span the 2,053-ft wide gorge. An engineering marvel at the time it was built, it is known as the ‘8th Man-made Wonder’ of its time. After a tornado destroyed a portion of the structure, a glass-bottomed skywalk was built on the remaining supports to honor the bridges’ history while creating a new scenic landmark. You will also have an opportunity to step out onto the Skywalk which extends 230 feet above the bottom of the gorge (or perhaps not – your choice! Ha/ha!)

All too soon, it will be time to point our coach westward and return to our pickup points, bringing back beautiful memories of a delightful scenic, educational, and entertaining Autumn vacation! (B, L)

Includes: Deluxe escorted motorcoach travel, meals and activities as above, luggage handling, and taxes.
